I have an opportunity to join either one of them. Both offers have similar TC at 180k (disregarding options/WSUs), role from Aurora is located in Pittsburgh, while Waymo is in Mountain View. The Aurora role seems to be in a new team, where I may help to lead and build the team. While role at Waymo is a L3 in a well established team. I'm wondering what people's opinions are for the 2 companies. And any thoughts on growth potential from leading/ownership experience vs. brand name. Thanks in advance! 2 yoe, TC 180k #waymo #aurora #sdc
Also, 180k in Pittsburgh gives you more purchasing/saving power than in MV
Go with Aurora. Leaner, less dilution of talent. And you get to be in a position of leadership.
How were waymo interviews? Difficulty level? Was it virtual? Have one coming up in couple of weeks.
Similar to G with some domain expertise questions. Mine were all virtual.
Do you mind sharing role and is this with MS? I would go with aurora for talent and ownership
I can share in DM.
I have DM'ed you. Also have an offer for L3 at waymo
For personal growth, Aurora could be a better option, for chance of success, I would go with waymo, I believe we still need billions and billions of investment, which Waymo could be in a better position.
Thanks! I feel very much the same way. I'm worried a bit about climbing the ladder at Waymo though. Wondering if it would be better to get more experience and join at a higher level.
If Waymo executes well on their business plan, they will be much bigger (>10x growth) than they are today. So there will be lots more growth opportunities in the long term but maybe not in the near future at Waymo. Given the resources, Waymo has the financial backing and credit lines to be successful and weather an economic downturn
I live in the Midwest if you don't mind having cold 4 months of the year then do Pittsburgh that amount of money for the area goes a long way compared to what the Bay Area is going to cost you
How do people get multiple offers? I work in AVs and been trying for months. Never heard anything back :(
I never stopped interviewing, probably interviewed on and off for a whole year, tried at least 10 companies, usually use small companies or less attractive ones as training. Some turned me down and then gave offer months later. Keep trying.
Thanks for sharing. I am definitely persistent. Only had one on-site till now
Waymo if you don't want to stick around for long
Why would you not want to stick around?
If you're not willing to do the long haul for unlisted equity and/or not very excited about the industry as a whole and just want a good line on your resume
I agree with the comments on smaller companies providing more opportunity for growth and impact. Housing in Pittsburgh also costs something like 1/5th of what it does in the Bay Area, soooo...

L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
Smaller companies typically offer opportunities for greater impact so I think Aurora is more appealing.
