Engineers from Bay Area moving to Austin - how you deal with 4 hours to closest beach, no mountains or skiing, plus 4 months of 100+ degrees and mosquitoes and other insects? Not to mention rest of racist Texas surrounding Austin if you not White.
There's a huge park in the downtown with plenty of water bodies. Hills and lakes and hikes within 30-45 mins drive from downtown. No beach but the lakes give you the feeling of being at a beach except if you want to surf.
Care to name these mountains at 30-45 min drive?
Mountains 😂😂 on VR
All you have heard is bits and pieces about Austin . What insects are you talking about ? And who told you entire Texas is racist ? Like really.. who comes up with shit like this ! Do you go to the beach every weekend in the bay ? What ancient house do you own here ? Or is it a matchbox ? Except the weather.. the bay area is a shit hole. If you really want to live and experience the real "USA".. you need to get out of the bay area !
Texas has a decent amount of racism. Bay Area is 100x better than Austin. Just move back instead of trying to cope in some tiny bullshit rural area in Texas
So Austin is a rural area ? 🤣 What rock do you live under ?
From a different thread
Yes it's just AWFUL here, please stay in California
You charter a private jet for skiing/beaches with your significantly increased savings 👌
Yeah, but Chinese and Indian don’t go on wiping civilizations after civilizations because of their skin color. Guess who used to keep the blacks in zoos ? And guess why there is barely any native population left in USA, Canada , New Zealand, Australia ..... etc.
Have you never studied history? Everyone killed everyone. Why are there no natives in New Zealand? Because the maoris killed them all.
Austin is pretty amazing. I traveled a lot when I was a consultant and had the opportunity of having a project out there. The weather in the summer was brutal, especially for me (SF Bay Area born and raised), but the “laidbackness” of it all and the people really reminded me of the Bay. And don’t kid yourself thinking we have beaches in Northern California. The only beaches really worth enjoying are in SoCal. With the cost of living difference, I’d say it’s worth living in Austin for a few years to save up a bit and then move back here if you want to. If you’re in your 20s or early 30s with no kids, why not?
The main question is what about the legal weed?
Not sure why there is so much hatred for Austin? If ppl want to move they will move. Their personal situation dictates where they want to live and what they want to buy. Not everyone wants to go to beach every weekend. There are still lot of hiking areas near Austin though it cannot match bay area. But it is good enough for most. And all your other assumptions are blatantly wrong.
May be. But in general it's not a healthy discussion to have. Discuss all pros and cons and let individual person decide. Rather than bashing the city.
I prefer 100+ degrees and mosquitoes more than my shitty $3k apartment.
Wow! Have rarely heard someone from G express this opinion. They’re in love with their pride and prestige and Bay Area!
By spending more time in the air conditioned mansion they bought for 100K!
100k gets you a 30 year old studio apartment in a bad part of town. Try again lol
No thank you to spending life in air conditioned big mansion.
