Austin or San Diego

I’m planning to leave the Bay Area, would you rather live in Austin or San Diego?

* Austin
- Better home prices
- Better tech job mobility

* San Diego
- Better weather
- Better policies (e.g. Cannabis)

      I love SD. If tech was better there, I would definitely live there. Austin is cool, but diversity is lacking.

      👆That’s the main problem in SD, no tech job mobility, everything else looks good to me.

    Austin. Sd is beautiful but people are dumb as fuck and no career mobility.

      I was thinking about Intuit in SD, the neighborhood looks nice, have you been in that office?

      Used to work at Intuit in that office. San Diego is wonderful, and so is Intuit SD! Highly recommend

    Home prices in Texas have to be weighed against the property tax. That being said, if I had to choose, Austin would prob be more fun.

      Yes, I’ve seen that property taxes are more expensive in Austin than the Bay Area and San Diego, if you paid off the home, you end up paying more monthly in Austin and it’s because you don’t have state taxes there.

      They have to tax something for revenue.

    San Diego is great. I considered moving to Austin and I knew that it's this blue oasis surrounded by well...the rest of Texas. Houses are cheap but the traffic is shit and the weather is even worse. Ultimately, I decided against Austin because I don't want my tax money to go to causes that I don't believe in.

      In both Austin and SD the commute depends where the office is and where you choose to live, as they both span pretty far distances north and south of downtown. Most SD offices are near 5/805 merge, that’s where traffic is worst.

      San Diego traffic is much, much better than LA, Seattle, or Bay Area. If you’re used to traffic in any of those areas, the worst traffic in SD is comparable to light-medium traffic in any of the other areas

    Difficult for any city to beat San Diego. Awesome weather .great beaches, breweries, outdoor heaven, kaboo music festival...del mar races, SeaWorld, Legoland,and zoo for ppl with kids..If can , do move for couple of years ..move out out if career mobility is low. Give it a try..don't think I have ever heard anyone regret. Lot of talent movement out of Q..so startup scene may heat up

      Most of them are located literally in one building in downtown San Diego.
