'Hindutva': The Radical Hindu Ideology That Seeks to 'Push Christianity Out of India’
I have to choose the location for interviewing in the wireless team at Apple. Options are Austin, San Diego & Irwin/LA. I am thinking LA is too costly & hence thinking of ruling it out. Now the below are the 3 things that are important for me at this point in life 1) I want to be at a place where there are options for VLSI/Semiconductor jobs as well as Software jobs (in Data/Cloud) for my Spouse. If either one of us have to switch the job, location should not be a constraint. 2) I want to buy a home in near future, preferably within a year (depending on housing market situation) 3) I would love if we can afford some kind of housekeeper to help out in daily chores as both of us remain pretty busy in our jobs. Ready to spend up to $1K to $2K per month if someone can take care of the daily chores so that we can focus on our jobs better (not sure how much that could cost). Will San Diego be a better city for this considering its right on Mexican Border ? I love San Diego Weather but never been to Austin (I heard its very hot for 4 months of the year). I am concerned about the job opportunities in SD from future point of view. Also, Housing is cheaper in Austin but not sure how much as compared to Austin. Please help provide perspective. Thanks !! Austin starts getting hot in March and continues until October, so it’s much longer than 4 months. I would recommend you visit the city in the summer to see if you can even stand the temperatures.
The highs for this week are all 98+ while I see San Diego is in the 70s… if you’re an outdoorsy person then it really limits what you can do in Austin in the summer
Wow 8 months of summer.. that's a lot of summer
SD all day. Austin is losing its charm as alpha nerds move in.
This has been said for year and years and years lol
Austin lost its charm y’all. It’s so boring now.
Cheaper (but not by much) cost of living and less taxes in Austin. Better weather and more chill in San Diego. Based off of your criteria I would go Austin. Plenty of jobs in both locations. I don’t know if you care about demographic but I found San Diego to be more East Asian.
Austin is not cheap anymore with propery tax 3% in most communities and decent house prices $800k+
Austin is still WAY cheaper than San Diego.
San Diego any day
@Apple/aWVt68 How big is Apple in SD (in terms of Headcount)? I heard its mostly wireless team.. how is the work culture & WLB (if any :) )?
Intel it’s getting bigger and bigger. In 2019 they wanted 1000 people, supposed to be 5000 by 2026
If you have kids, hands down San Diego it is. Lots of fun. You can be outside pretty much thru out the year
I heard there is Sea World & a great zoo as well. Plus more places for weekend get away as compared to Austin.
How many times you go to SeaWorld and zoo? Hardly once or twice a year after couple of years you will be bored. Why not take advantage of your jobs and spend some time in each part of the world. You no need to settle down in one place. Yah Austin is hot in summers but it is growing faster than SD in tech. You don’t have any near by outdoor activity in austin but you can take a flight in summer , spring , winter and Christmas to your favorite locations. You can go to any part of US in less than 5 hr flight. Florida, Mexico are couple of hours. Colorado is 1.5 hr.
I love Austin and Texas in general, but couldn’t do that heat all year. sd has happy people, perfect weather, (cold) beaches and just a great overall vibe. It’s one of my favorite places so I’d go there over Austin (and no question over LA)
Heat all year??
Austin is surrounded by Texas. Not sure about your political viewpoints, but if you’re looking to buy a house and start a family, then consult with your partner first (assuming you are male and your partner is female). Females will be used for breeding and their rights are being stripped off in Texas.
Exaggerate much? Overall it's fantastic you and people who think like that are leaving.
Austin is most overrated city in USA . Spend some time there before you decide to move
My gut says the same.. its just the affordability of Austin that's luring me. But if the city in general is not great then I guess there is no point.
The nice parts of Austin are NOT affordable. If you want to live 25 miles from the real city then sure you can live in a dusty hot suburb near a Chipotle and slowly get very depressed.
San Diego and it’s not even close.
Tijuana - Best of both worlds.
I don't think Tijuana is an options for non-citizens :)
