Looking to shop around for a new place of employment and planning to stay in the city. Having never worked anywhere outside Goldman, I'm trying to figure out what I should ask money-wise for my 4 yoe (more comfortable with frontend but I do have some general full stack experience). Currently making 115k base (bonus last year was 30k). Is this about average for non-FAANG or lower?
Double? At a tech company anyways. With competing offers etc.
so around 200k TC? I figured I'm at least 10-30k underpaid in base, just hoping the bonus makes up for the difference somewhat...
Oh no, including bonus.
Quite low for NYC. Fintechs don't pay that badly.
Well, goldman does as you can see
Well I meant in general. Fintechs pay just a tier below faang. Or at least Bloomberg does. some HFTs pay even more than faang.
Thank you OP for posting honest numbers .... that’s eaxactly what most associates in FinTech in NYC make at most FIs.... hedge funds n Bloomberg pay better ....
Also blind is pretty skewed, take numbers with grain of salt. I worked at top 50 companies and did not know any swes making over $200k.
You work at Amazon and don't think swes get paid above 200k? I don't think I know a single person that gets paid less, across the people I know at fang, startups, and otherwise.
What is your title at Goldman?
Associate (generally given after 3 years at GS)
I think it will be hard to go to an swe role since your title is associate. I think your comp is fair given non-FAANG. I have 12 yoe started at Deloitte now at FAANG. My comp didn’t even hit $100k till 5-6 years in. Now at 12 yoe I am at $215k. Be patient looking for the right opportunity. Also to add my coworker with 5 yoe at FAANG makes $140k tc in non swe role. So I think if you compare non-swe you are where you should be
