I spent 6 hours of my life interviewing for this company. I aced the interview and we got talking to offer details. I mentioned that Im happy to join, but Id need a few days to complete my other interview loops. After the call, I get an email saying we are no longer considering you. Not even a discussion around “Hey, we need you to sign tomorrow or this wont work”. Absolutely infuriating behavior. Please avoid this toxic amazon clone. #engineering #software #swe
Why would you reveal that you need time to interview at other companies? It’s a man eat man world bro! Accept the offer, interview and then ditch if you find a better offer. Companies don’t deserve to be treated well. Lookout for yourself.
This is my takeaway. I was used to interviewing during COVID where we had the leverage. Im going to be ruthless from now on.
This, absolutely.
Supply vs demand. You want to shop around. Then go ahead. I would do the same if I was the company.
Thanks for the heads up. Will avoid. We need more of this active feedback as candidates.
" I mentioned that Im happy to join, but Id need a few days to complete my other interview loops." Why would you even consider saying this mate.. You can't blame a corporate entity for rejecting you after you said this
Communication? It’s called setting expectations and delivering on them. This is a core quality at L5+ levels.
I don't see anything wrong in OPs statement. It just doesn't work in this market where employers have all the leverage. But still, fuck them for being ahole
What a bunch of dumbasses. It costs a lot to interview. It could be layoffs though
Isn't this company dead?
Lol I spoke with them last year and it was one of the worst interview experiences I’ve had. Also every review of their product is people being like “I got scammed”, no thanks! 😂
Damn what team was this? Sounds really dumb. Sorry to hear OP
pm me if you wanna know
Was this around the fall? We actually had to slow hiring and several open roles were chopped due to the darkening macro economic outlook. Outstanding offers were honored, and some high priority roles were spared. But the role you were interviewing for may have been one of the chopped roles.
Too late for those sorry excuses
I’m not making an excuse. I’m just trying to find the root cause of what is obviously a bad experience for the OP. I didn’t intend to defend Hopper’s actions here, but rather figure out if there’s an opportunity for us to improve.
Normally, I would say this is the mark of an incompetent company and it still is because you only get the most desperate of people. However, companies are flexing their position in this market. But I agree if they want you to start early and that was a deal breaker they should have told you that up front. I can see them not giving you weeks to get competing offers but at least give you a few days or at least a weekend.
