Quitting this Slave life
A friend of mine had similar offers from Meta and a few other decent sized companies. She asked me what I’d do and was shocked to know that I never considered even applying in Meta on ethical grounds (even during its prime days) Told her I made up my mind a while back after seeing detrimental effects of social media addiction on my wife, my kids & even my mom ! In fact It’s been 8 years since I deleted my fb account and never looked back She said I’m crazy - So I decided to poll y’all Have you taken an ethical stance against a company due to its products or impact on society ? TC $350K
I wouldn’t work for Ubuntu ( canonical). I don’t like apt.
😂
What's your take on snap?
I take an ethical stance against the companies I've interviewed for and failed.
I use to be ideological but nowadays in this kind of market i don’t really care. Anyone but Elon though. Can imagine how frustrating it would be to have him as leadership.
I literally told a Meta (then Facebook) recruiter that I wouldn't work for them under any circumstance.
There are many people who share your values. Meta, Tiktok, AT&T etc. are untouchable.
No Elon companies
If you don’t take the job someone else will take it, and by taking it you can get a chance to make a change. In my experience Meta feels like a very ethical company and the core values are tied to improve the world, yes, it can backfire, and yeah, people within the company can make mistakes but that can happen everywhere. It’s not like we come to work thinking how we can make the mental health of people worse, quite the opposite. I think expecting to work at a “perfectly ethical” company is unrealistic and if such place exists it will probably get somewhat corrupted one way or another. But you’re free to work on whatever makes you happy and to stay away from what doesn’t, actually I think that’s a very healthy decision.
Oracle - it’s not work ethical. It wreaks of lethargy.
tiktok, amazon and meta are on my list - i interview with them for practice but nothing more
personally, I wouldn’t work for a tobacco or an alco company
