Hello, wanted some opinions on this offer I got from Github for a Director Software Engineering in the Netherlands. Would appreciate any insight on the taxation of the RSUs as that's a big "sell" on their side but I have my doubts on how much of that I'll actually see if NL takes 50%+ of it on vesting. Any experience with that? TC Year 1: €293.5k (assuming 30% bonus) Base: €195k Sign on RSU: €160k vests over 4 years Yearly Bonus: 0-60% Refresher RSUs: 100-200k a year vests over 4 years My current TC per year is €210 where my base is €165k. I saw the same job listed in the US and the max base salary was equivalent to about €210k base. Do you feel I should ask for more in base if you take into account that bonus + RSUs are taxed as extra income here and taxed at 50%+ ? Could use some guidance, I was working in another country before where RSUs were quite advantageous but my friends in NL tell me they are not. #salary #offer #tech #github
Marginal tax rate after around 70k is 49.5%, doesn't matter if it's base, bonus or RSUs surely? Bonuses aren't taxed extra, they just happen to fall into your highest tax bracket but if you got the same amount in base instead you'd be paying the exact same amount in tax as well. The only difference is in what interval you receive the payments.
Nice thanks for explaining that, helps a lot! You’re right. What do you think of the offer?
Well that is obviously an extremely high offer for Europe but I don't know about director-level pay and how much more one would expect there. For Uber in Amsterdam I think this number would be around or above staff, for Databricks senior. But GitHub is known to pay less than other top companies so I guess it sounds about right.
I was a director at GitHub. Expect 20% bonus. The 60% is bullshit.
Same. Max for director is 40% and this can only happen if there are several low performers on the team/org as budgets are funded for 100% of everyone’s target bonus. Target for director is 20%, senior director 25%.
Rsu seems quite low
Also refresher RSUs. Expect 70k. Over 100k is near impossible
Wow, I had no idea such high posts in Netherlands paid peanuts???
😔 now Im worried — lowball?
Its not peanuts acc to NL, just take a look at techpays.eu, and you would see similar positions in NL pay similar or even lower than that. The RSU tax thing is right, my recruiter at Elastic NL also told me that both RSU and Bonus are taxed at 55%
