So many people are leaving Bay Area that it is causing supply issues for U-Haul https://m.sfgate.com/expensive-san-francisco/article/U-Haul-San-Francisco-Bay-Area-prices-shortage-12617855.php#photo-15087367
This, among many other reasons, is why I hate it when people say things like "why don't all the people barely scrapping it by in the Bay Area and living paycheck to paycheck just leave?" Because they literally can't!
Well that’s the point of the article So many people are leaving SF that it has reduced the supply of UHaul
I meant that relocation costs a lot money (in the thousands even when the U Hauls are normal priced ) and many simply don't have it and can't save it because it gets burned faster than they earn due to CoL so they are basically stranded here and become the "working poor" like those who live in RVs on El Camino. This Uhaul situation is just more fuel to the fire.
Aren’t there people moving to the Bay Area at roughly the same rate people are leaving? Maybe the tech workers moving here hire movers instead of renting a U-Haul.
I thought about this too. Hypothesis is many moving IN are new/fresh grads without many belongings to ship. The folks moving out have families/kids and stuff to move.
Leave with only things u can drive in your car.
Move out support from the government is a lot less expensive than perpetual support to stay put. Perhaps SF should consider funding a program to help find people a new place to live that they can sustainably afford and help move them there for free. Win win.

The obvious solution is to pick the uhaul from Las Vegas drive it to SJ, pack it up and drive it back.
