Hi all, Received the offer letter from Qualcomm BLR for Software Engineer position. Background: Btech from IIT, non-circuital Experience- 1y 10m Offer details: Base- 20L (Retirals excluded) RSUs - $16k for 3 yrs Bonuses- 3L joining + 1L relocation ( 2 year clawback) Annual perf bonus- 8% of base Current TC- 15.7LPA base + 1.85L variable pay Please evaluate the offer and provide your suggestions. HR was adamant on what he was offering. Kept saying appraisal would happen in October so don't push much now.
You as a new joinee will not be getting a meaningful pay raise in October comp review, though. So have that sorted out.
Yes I too had this in mind. Any suggestions on what could be a reasonable ask?
Sorry, I have no idea what their pay bands are like. I'm just pointing out that you shouldn't be caught by surprise later. Recruiters are evil 2 faced liars. In my almost 20 years of career, I have been bitten by lying recruiters multiple times. One time, it was the hiring manager who promised that I would get a pay hike in the annual review which was due in three months if I joined the company and showed that I was a good engineer. Then when the annual review happened, I got no raise. I complained to the hiring manager who asked me to ponder if I had really demonstrated if I was the best engineer there is and if I had really shown outstanding contributions in the past three months, which was just a way to tell me to GTFO. I didn't stay at the company for much longer.
Looks like offer is from Qualcomm IT department. If yes run from there
Could you share any insights why you say so? Also, not having any other offer in hand right now and current org is toxic.
Doesn't look like from IT to me
Ask for more RSU's.
Only place they would budge is joining and retention bonus. Can ask for double of current, saying this from my personal experience.
Okay, will try that. Had saw a few LC posts on this as well.
Generally qualcomm india has fixed joining RSU for a grade, so its difficult to get it updated unless they need you very badly. Base they will have very little wiggle room unless they have really lowballed you which does not seem to be the case here. Still you can ask. Joining and retention they are usually flexible. Retention they will easily make it equal to joining so that's one thing which you might get easily.
You will get 2% to 3% as part of your first appraisal. I see an offer being on the lower side it's almost the same as what's offered to fresh graduates.Continue in your current org and try to negotiate this year. Uninstall blind and focus on learning for the first 3 years at least.
Good offer, take it
