Skiing outfit?

I‘ve always had insulated jacket. But thinking of trying out a shell jacket and wondering what layers to wear inside the shell. Any recommendations? What’s your goto outfit?

Here’s everything you’ll ever need: 1. Base layers- top and bottom. You can go merino wool for something natural, warm, sweat wicking, and odor-free. Or you can get a capilene/other blend for something a bit more comfortable, thinner, but will likely smell sooner. I prefer capilene blend but keep both around. Same principle for bottoms/leggings. 2. Fleece/puffer- any good fleece will do here. They’re all synthetic polyester based, and are best for keeping you warm while continuing to wick sweat, but they don’t block wind at all. If you’d prefer something more versatile or for hot days that can be used as an outer layer, nanopuff/micropuff puffer jackets (Patagonia, North Face, etc) make a great replacement for a fleece/midlayer and provide slightly more versatility as an outer. 3. Shell- get something with as much breathability and waterproofing as possible. There are standard ratings for these- anything 20,000/20,000 is really good, 15/15k good, and 10k/10k on the lower end. Pants follow the same ratings. 4. Socks- go merino or merino blend here. Typically, the thinner the better. I recommend Smartwool.

Trust in that you don’t need a ton of layers. You will be warm enough with a base layer and nothing thicker than a normal sweatshirt if in the PNW

Much more flexibility especially when skiing in springtime when it's sunny and warm
