Offer negotiation in progress to join OfficeDepot/varis team. Looks like lot of amazon folks join in last year or 2. Is it safe to join when lot of news about selling & splitting company? Is offer good for sr lead swe role ? Blind tax: current tc 160k Offer tc: base 170k, 25% annual bonus, 5k joining bonus, no rsu Location:FL Https://www.retaildive.com/news/office-depot-owner-delays-spinoff-as-it-mulls-sale-of-retail-business/617202/
I recently moved from Varis/Office Depot to Amazon. If they are offering money like this I would join back. It has amazing work culture and work like balance. What position did they offer ?
Sr lead swe ... amazon is great resume builder. Not sure if office depot name on resume can make that much impact.
That's true. But in the end work life balance matters a lot. Depending which part of your life you are in. If you are in mid 20s you can focus on Resume and profile building but after 30s you need to focus on your self and your family.
Office Depot split should not impact Varis . They are planing to sell off retail business and move forward with B2B . Most of the top management at Varis came from good companies. Their future plan looks good but not sure how it will be In reality. WLB is very good at Office Depot , but not sure if it will be same in future as well.
Varis really provides compensation which matches above ?
In levels.fyi I saw they offered 200k for Principal Engineer so for Sr Lead 170K is definitely possible.
no RSU ? Thats a bummer !
Yep... no rsu... low 401k ... benefits not good
So far so good for me @ Varis. Yes offer was competitive and RSUs.
What is your current role at Varis
Sales
OP, could you please share the interview details and tips. I have interview loop scheduled next week. Thanks
Depends on role ... swe will have codability screen round ... lot of ppl from amazon here... so expect amazon style interview in full loop.
Hmm. Thanks.
Varis is an early-stage hypergrowth tech company. There are very few start-ups with such a fully developed culture, work-life balance, and highly experienced leadership at this early stage. The tech is revolutionary. If you get an offer, take it. You will not regret it. It will be your home for a while!
Are you working for Varis?
Did you take the offer? If so how is the wlb so far and the work culture?
Lots of long time folks from Amazon Business in Austin and Seattle joined this company. Decently competitive bunch, typical Amazonian expectations though so make sure they pay you as much as they will expect work out of you. My concern would be they have Amazon style work expectations, without paying as much as Amazon.
Ya... lot c level amazon folks joined... ann rung, prentis etc... amazon LP should be driven from top level is expected. Can you comment on company stability? They keep looking for buyers to sell their business components OR split company.
Hmm sorry no idea about the sale plans, that was news to me. The senior leaders must have a sweet deal then through a sale plan, coz I was surprised they all left Amazon for it.
