If you are not bothered about immediate TC bump then I would recommend Apple considering security and good refreshers. Otherwise you can opt bytedance but WLB hits a toll depending on how you manage and can be difficult for growth if you are non-Chinese

I want to be there for a few (2-3) years. I don’t want to grow into the company beyond one promotion. I want job security for as long as 2-3 years only. How bad is WLB? Are some teams 3 days RTO and others 5?

@op 2-1 to 2-2 promotion is tough for non-Chinese. I heard people with 2 cycles of exceeds expectation ratings still not getting promoted. Not to demotivate but keep low expectations. WLB varies a lot and how smart you are. Some teams with 3 Days but heard there is a push for 5 days

Hard to quantify. Depends on % collaboration with people in china/singapore. It gets bad with increased cross country collaboration. Also, we use machine translation in meetings and it’s kinda bad which contributes -ve ly to WLB as you put more effort in understanding the details

I have an interview scheduled with ByteDance for SWE but everyone keeps talking about how the culture is “Chinese” and how different it is from western culture but I have honestly no idea wtf that means. I could literally double my TC at ByteDance but I don’t want to burn my life to the ground for money…

don't factor bonus into tiktok TC - they'll do everything possible to withhold/reduce/pay it in RSUs - then, they'll make you pay 100% taxes on the RSUs that you can't touch/sell based on some made up valuation and then will claw anything you actually do get back with their crazy non-disparagenent clause. 2-3 years is an eternity here; average tenure, 6-7months.
