I know it's all the rage to rip on snowflake millenials, but when I listen to the song it sounds a lil rapey to me. Maybe if you've never been raped, or had a date rape attempted on you, you'd disagree. The song was written in a different time: A time when men controlled everything and women were trophies that ran the home. I think it's ok to ban the song because the biggest concept around rape culture (that is not taught in schools) is consent. The song has a woman who clearly wants to leave, is worried about getting home safely and a man who isn't listening to her wanting to go. Instead of helping her figure out how to get home, he's pressuring her to stay and ignoring her no. Insyead of making her feel safe and comfortable (I'll set you up in the guest room / on the couch), he pursues keeping her there to cuddle more. Sounds rapey to me and if it helps one young boy in the world understand the concept of consent better, then it's a win for women everywhere.

I like the song and still play it every winter season but the lyrics are still very rapey. But it wasn't so long ago that it was simply a woman playing "hard to get", a man had to be persistent to show how much he wanted her. Today this is no longer acceptable apparently.
