With all these layouts happening are employers getting more picky about education requirements? Are companies like openAI filtering bachelors/masters degree in the background? I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos made by technical job recruiters, saying that companies are filtering for education since so many people are applying to one job. Even if the job doesn’t require education, you may not even get an interview because so many other people also have an education who you’re competing with
You don't have a BS?
Just stay at New. Why try to move? Slave at startups until you physically cant
I don’t but I got lucky to get my role when no one wanted to work . Senior SWE TC $145k (one of the big ones in Austin)
I actually left a start up that was paying more back in 2022 (TC 180k). But I saw the bond yield curve flip and I knew bad times are coming. My current company is under hiring freeze.
Experience is more important than education
That’s true but what about an a tight job market like right now?

But I don’t have a bachelors degree. I just have a bunch of fancy companies on my résumé. I am worried if layoffs do happen, and and I get picked to be laid off. It’ll be very difficult to get back in to a remote position.
I’ve been rejected for not having a BS before, and this was in the summer last year when I was actively looking for another offer to the job I already had in hand. The news states that employers are looking to do away with BS requirements, and yet I’ve experienced nothing but rejection at phone screens for not having them. TC: 105K
This is nothing, when things get bad you will get what we used to call "Magic purple squirrel" job requirements The requirements will get so ridiculous you'll wonder if anyone can make the cut Jobs are the hot chick on tinder, and job applicants are thirsty guys. She has all the power and will pick the best (no one under 6 feet, rich, etc)
There’s been previous reporting that as more candidates flood the market, requirements go up and vice versa. If you have 1000 applying for one role, you want a way of quickly filtering out candidates.
