I have worked at TikTok US core tech for 3 years. AMA.
I matched with a team in Google that is full stack (L3) but I only know backend. will I have enough time to learn frontend after I join or should I ask for a backend team? no numbers yet
Do you _want_ to do full stack though? I personally can’t stand FE work, so would wait for a backend role.
Agree with this. Focus should be on what you are interested in. If you are interested in frontend work, I think ramp up should be reasonable and even interesting. It's a whole different animal.
You are clueless
I’d say this is a good opportunity to learn front end if that’s what you want
I matched full stack and was backend before joining. Turned out most of work is frontend. Have ample of time to ramp up. Still ramping up after 1.5 years. Things get deprecated. New SDK versions released. New frameworks introduced. And the most, each project required something new which I hadn't done before.
For me, Google has been extremely accommodating of my lack of experience in some areas, as a senior engineer even. I've got 9 years of experience but they're giving me a slow trickle of work to get me adjusted to Google tech and a new language that I had never used before. I'm sure that you, as a junior engineer, will get the same treatment. Provided you don't end up with a really bad team or something... Good luck!
You’ve got 6 months to ramp up on Google technologies and your teams stack.
