Hey guys, Currently waiting for a background check, done by hireright, I have to resign soon and it will not be complete before. Last time I waited until all was complete. How do you handle this? Details: What I told them should be pretty accurate and easily verifiable, I had no convictions, bankruptcy or similar, so I see no reason for it to fail. Would you wait or trust everything will be alright? How would you communicate that you want to wait if that is what you recommend? Please explain in the comments. Thanks
Why should you be without salary even for a day because of some stupid bg company's incompetence. Moreover, don't take risk. Just tell your current company that you will extend your last working date by a week because you want to complete the transition and not leave them in lurk..they might like it.
Haven't resigned yet.
I just finished with hireright and took about three days. Def allow them to contact current employer. When I said to not contact they require me to upload a bunch of docs and it was annoying. Some of them were rejected so delayed the process.
What?! This is bad advice! Unless the OP had already provided a resignation he shouldn't allow BGC to contact his current employer. If you don't allow contact all you have to do is provide a few paystubs or a W2. If you allow them, you don't provide anything.
I take it back it seems the general consensus is to not allow contact. I did because they didn’t accept all my documents at first.
I used hireright back in April. Took from Wednesday - Tuesday. I would not let them contact my current employer but I would go ahead and upload W2s and /or paystubs for all employers. They ended up coming back and asking me for that info anyway. If I would have uploaded it originally the process would have been faster. I did not resign until HR at new job confirmed everything was good. The new company can push back your start date if the background check hasn’t come back. So if you’ve already resigned you could end up being unemployed for a week or so which is fine if you don’t need to get paid during that time and still have health insurance.
Haven't resigned and they have copies of the degree certificate, payslips for current employer and work certificate for previous employers.
Great! You should get your results soon.
Always wait to be completed before resigning. It’s too risky. To expedite hire right process, send them a proof of everything: paycheck of all the last 3 jobs, statement, degree copies, proof of work, W2, passport copy. You will simplify the work of the person at Hireright and he might not have to contact anybody. My case took just few days that way.
Thanks for sharing. They have all the above mentioned things. Trouble is they have not actively started checking after a weeks time.
OP - Hireright is usually fast and takes under a week, unless you are making them do most of the work and/or you're getting them to verify your international work experience. Just provide any Paystubs and W2s wherever they had asked and you should be fine.
Thanks did this. They haven't started checking yet from the looks of it.
Should be pretty quick but still would not resign until it clears. The more experience you have, the longer it will take to verify, so I would recommend uploading docs yourself (w2s and paystubs). Also, one thing that I’ve noticed can take the longest time is foreign degrees.
Thanks for sharing. They will have to check foreign degrees and work history.
If you have a deadline to resign, then you have to resign first and all the conjecturing won’t help. If you don’t have a deadline, then wait for the BGC to complete first. Why do you have to resign soon?
We talked about a start date and to make it I need to resign in a few days.
Ask the new company for more time and let this be a note you carry forward. Always negotiate a starting date that doesn’t hurt you - give yourself enough time for the new offer to be completed and give yourself some time off if you want some. Don’t get talked into a situation that could backfire on you for no reason.
Used hireright recently (1-2 weeks ago) and took me around 3-4 days. I didn’t allow them to contact my current employer. I just uploaded paycheck and W2.
Congrats. I supplied proof of work for all previous employers, copies of my degree and payslips for current employer. They haven't even started checking afaik after 1 week.
That’s odd! Maybe you could try giving them a call? I know i had a couple of questions while i was filling out the form, so i called them. Maybe you can call them to check on the status?
Curious, do you guys try to give 2 weeks notice and if the timing just doesn’t work out, how bad is less than 2 week notice?
I always give atleast 2 weeks. Depends on if you don’t mind burning a bridge or not.
Just move the start date based on background check. Its not your fault the bgc took so long, your new company should understand this.
Currently also waiting on a bgc from a different company. Its been like 3 weeks now. Taking forever. I asked the recruiter and from their side they can see the ETA. Apparently only a few more days to go. I’m waiting till bgc comes back clear before giving notice. OP, did you already give notice to current company?
Thanks for your insights. I haven't given notice yet.
