I am asking for a title change at the bank but have been refused, they said my tenure at the bank is still short and there are other prerequisites (they didn’t tell that clearly) .. I have been performing decently, how do I do something extraordinary to get noticed for a title change? It’s really disappointing 🙁#bankofamerica
This is so simple, but nobody does their homework. Here's the first thing. None of the bigger organizations promote based on good metrics. Even if you are 400% over goal you are not getting promoted based solely on that. Now you can and should negotiate the absolute highest total comp at your level, but this isn't indicative that you should be promoted. Every org is different in how specific they are but at Amazon they have incredibly thorough role guidelines, and you must check all of the boxes to do the role, as this is the only thing that makes you worthy of promotion. Additionally you should lead some projects that you start! You must see them to completion. Lastly you must take a more active role in talent acquisition (interviewing), and in mentoring others. For all organizations you don't get a Sr. Title without the things mentioned above. You don't get promoted for "meeting the bar". You get promoted for "raising the bar". Lastly, being somewhere a long time also isn't indicative of promo. Some people think because they habe been somewhere 5 years that means they should get promoted, but it couldn't be further from the truth. It often time illustrates that you've become stagnant. Just offering advice that will authentically get you promoted if you apply yourself.

This is true AND it also depends on the work one is given/volunteers for. If not visible to skip or even 2 levels up, prob not going to get promotion. OP, you should ask explicitly what it takes to get promoted. If manager says 'exceeds rating' then ask for specifics what that looks like and ask for important work. Follow up during 1:1 to make sure things are on track. Make sure your manager knows your goal is to get promoted, as the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I can see your reply you are in tech. To VP you need three continuous exceed/exceed.
performance ratings are a joke. Across the bank, there are Exceeds rated people who dont get a pay raise / bonus, while meets/meets do. PFP process is just a Koolaid move to keep the goats in the herd.
title promotions dont need to come with pay raise. My title promotion came with a measly 3.5% raise. There are no promotions at bank of america. You need to apply for your next role. You will disclose to your manager when you apply or before taking the interview, so there is a target on your back once you do. if you get through the interview, recruiter will then reach out to your manager first, telling you might accept an offer ( before extending the offer to you). Then the recruiter low balls you, giving you a raise you are absolutely not comfortable with, but you wont be able to say no, since you are reminded that your manager has already approved your move. If you do not move, your manager knows you as the $hithead that tried to move and wears you down until you leave and will place you on the quarterly severance list. All the options are bad , unless you know the hiring manager for the next role and establish a personal connection.
Definitely sucks big time ..
this is not 1990s. i just dont see how BOFA would promote people based on your abilities. it really partially depends on how well you can get along with all people in your team and make them happy.

Are you in tech? Understand the expectations clearly. Set OKRs/metrics/goals for your next level. Schedule 1:1s and iteratively go over the points if you are meeting them or if there any gaps. In spite of exceeding expectations if still not promoted then there are so many other places which will value you.
Yea I only had 2 review cycles and got meets rating both times. Looks like it is mandatory to get exceeds rating for a title promotion? Yes I am in Tech.
Ex bank tech. Meets is not good enough for fast promotion. You are doing okay not great
