Is Barclays hierarchy the same as other US banks? Meaning VPs are dime a dozen. I have 11 YOE but the HR says they are different from other banks and that VPs are actually pretty senior. They want to offer AVP but think it's a down level. TC 140k Non US
Yea, Barclays has the same titles as every other banks. Don’t fall for it.
I thought so, thanks
Agree
New grads come in at BA4 which is one below AVP. After the scheme, 2 years, they're almost always promoted to AVP soon after. If you're hired as a VP I think there's an expectation that you will be a line manager etc. I've also seen AVPs who had similar or more experience to you, the main reason it matters is just to know what salary band you'll be within - but even that changes depending if you're in BUK or BX or in the IB, I think
Hi Barclays, Can I DM you ?
Can I DM you
Yeah VPs are pretty senior in Barclays
Hi Barclays, Can I DM you ?
I have a couple of teammates with your experience joining as AVPs. If you are a Senior Software engineer or equal, you would be given a AVP. If you are applying for a technical managerial role, then you would be given a VP. AVPs are a dime a dozen but not the VPs in Barclays
What would you suggest in my particular case? I am currently managing a small team but the role I am applying for is an IC. Do you think if I push them, they will give me a VP role even if their role is not about managing the team?
Hi Barclays, Can I DM you ?
Not really, AVP in Barclays is more like VP in Citi and Chase, as VPs in Citi and JPM are very often still one level below ppl managers
I see, thanks for sharing
Senior associate in JPM is more comparable to AVP in Citi, you know nothing John Snow
