I have a verbal offer of 133K from Barclays Whippany NJ for AVP band. Since they don't have sign in bonus I am trying to negotiate by saying my expectation is in between 150K to 160K. Recruiter is on vacation but someone else will take over her pending tasks next week. Do I have to be concerned about they terminating an offer if they find it unjustifyable? I haven't got an official offer yet but have expressed my interest in thr position. And what should be an expected salary after negotiations? I have one more final round with Barclays for some other position at the same location but no offer for that yet however recruiter told me that it is lower than AVP band position. I am expecting that second offer from Barclays next week. After initial negotiations they said "Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately the salary range you mentioned below would not be possible for this opportunity. Please let me know if you have additional questions. " How should I respond to them? I have 13 years of experience
What does AVP band mean here? Assistant/Associate Vice President? If so, why are we talking numbers that fit a random new grad SDE lol
Yes it is Assistant Vice President
How many AVP’s does the company have then lol wtf is this TC
This post is confusing. Hr already told you barclays can't meet your expectations...what is the point of going back with your demand?
I am trying to negotiate and bump it up as much as possible.
OP I used to work at Barclays. Is this for a software engineering role ?
An FYI, I joined barclays at the BA entry level as an engineer and stayed for 2.5 years. I had multiple offers from other start ups that were offering 145-160k base so tbh I wouldn’t give barclays the time of day for that offer given you have so much more work experience.
Yes it is SDE role in trade capture team
If you’re in dev, you can and should do way better with 13 YOE. And pay raises at Barclay’s is usually 1-3% per year regardless of how much you’ve grown or developed.
Any idea how much is annual bonus for VP?
They will not terminate the offer for sure. At the same time they will not budge. Be ready to move on if they can’t meet your expectations. 133k for 13 yoe sounds super lowball. Do you know which team are you going to be joining ?
It is SDE role in Trade Capture team. Front Office environment
Damn that's too low. Tell them exactly that you need a joining bonus if you really need this job. I thought they had sign on bonus component already but this is new. Having said that, I would say keep on trying for better opportunities!
This is why barclays is losing all their talent and unable to retain any lmao. So easy to find other better paying opportunities in the city 😂
Exactly. The pay is just sh**. They are not at all focused on the tech side of things.
For 13 years of experience, shouldn't they offer you VP band?
You should definitely be offered VP.. As a worst case scenario, negotiate for title if you cannot for salary.. stay for 1 yr and then jump to another firm on the VP title.. otherwise you will find it very difficult to get promoted
For a VP it’s little less. Don’t get low balled. My colleague is a VP and he makes around 170k. Just don’t appear weak and that’s how companies catch you. I feel you should either move on to a different company or give a counter offer for your desired range. If they don’t, then move on.
I would suggest have some counter offers that will make your case strong

I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.
No point in responding. Time to move on. They ca nt meet your request, no need going back for previous offer
