What long term (medical) effects have you experienced from Copper IUD?
No kids
That’s positive
A) fix your spelling, b) Mirena IUD is so much better than copper
Currently on the copper IUD, have been since mid-April. After taking oral contraceptives for years, it has pros and cons. Pros: -don’t have to think about taking my pills on time everyday -lasts for roughly 12 years Cons: -can’t skip periods like you can on oral contraceptives -cramps are bad. Like really bad. This could vary person to person, but when I was taking oral pills, I would only get mild cramps on the first day of my period. Maybe just take 1 Midol and that was it. Now that I’m using the Copper IUD, I have to take 2-3 Naproxen (500mg each) in the first couple days of my period. -Periods last a full 7 days and are twice as heavy -Could be unrelated, but I’ve noticed an increase in my facial acne. Nothing severe, but I used to have almost none back when I was taking the oral pills In conclusion: I do like not having to think of taking a pill daily, but am not fond of the side effects. I had originally figured that going with a non-hormonal contraceptive would be more ‘natural’ but don’t think I want to continue paying the price. Will likely be switching to hormonal IUD soon. Hope that helps!
I talked to my doc about Mirena vs. copper. Apparently Mirena is better with way less side effects. Periods on the copper are supposedly very heavy and painful. Copper is also bigger which means it’s going to hurt even worse to put in.
I had never been in so much pain that I considered going to emergency room the same day after having the copper IUD put in. Hope changing it out for the smaller Mirena is better but still plan on taking hella pain killers for that.
Worst pain of my life. I almost passed out from the Mirena
I've had both IUDs and actually prefer the Copper one. I had the Mirena for one year and it caused my acne to flare up (a likely result of the progesterone and lack of estrogen). I had to take a second round of Accutane to clear my skin. I replaced the Mirena with the Copper IUD ~one year ago, and my periods have been slightly heavier but nowhere near as bad as people make it seem. Also, after taking hormones for 6 years, I was surprised to find out that I have a natural 6-week cycle. I don't regret this decision for a second. Best of luck:)
Using a condom with a new partner after breaking up with long time gf who had copper iud feels weird
Did the wire poke you?
That's not how that works
