Everything is either equal or better with this new opportunity (comp is equal, but considerable stock options that might be worth more). It's a much smaller company, but has potential to IPO in 1-2 years. If things don't work out with the smaller company would AWS reconsider me? I feel terrible for leaving after such a short amount of time, but it seems like a better career opportunity.
What’s your take on AWS 2 months in..?
Lots of pros, but lots of cons. I appreciate the large scope and lack of hand-holding, but it's definitely a sink-or-swim vibe. People relish the "escalation culture", and are generally more confrontational than what I experienced working at Google for years. I learned a lot in just two months, but I never felt super excited or proud to be there.
A lot of talented people leave early when they see they have found what they were looking for... They are talented so they do not need any branding... Follow your heart and the gut feeling I would say
Appreciate the response. This new role fell into my lap and matches more of my 5/10/15 year career goals. The commute is much worse (can't beat working from home!) But the comp/equity and interesting opportunity to build is too enticing.
TC? Level, role? I’d say explore the new opportunity. Pay back your signing bonus and go, there’s more to life than AWS. As for being reconsidered, hard to say. You’d probably have to do a full loop again etc.
Go for it... I do no think you can comeback if you leave in less than a year
