At my current company, people don’t get criticized for having their own opinion and generally accepts different point of view. At the very least, agree to disagree. This is definitely true when it comes to politics. But I have few friends working for tech in Seattle and sometimes feel hostility from them when politics comes into conversation (usually they would start it). So I am asking republicans working in Seattle tech companies (or Bay area), is this the new norm? Or are my friends few exceptions?
No one cares about your political affiliation. It is hard being a sexist, racist, climate denier, ignoramus in tech. But Republicans feel threatened for some reason 🤷🏻♂️
☝️
More tolerant as always liberals as long as it completely agrees with their distorted fantasy land views.
You have right to expression as long as it's liberal here
Good. Your life as a republican should be hard. Yours is the party of racists and neo-nazis. By being a republican you let everyone know that you support that. So fuck you and your kind.
You're ridiculous. Keep living in your echo chamber
This is the liberal attack mode. You can see them coming when they open their mouths and tell you as a mob your a racist. Give me fkn break. Bunch of asswipes
2 friends at Boeing said about half of their coworkers were open Trump supporters. You would never see that in tech.
If you're not racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or anti-semitic you'll be fine. Do you think you'll have a problem with that?
Do you liberals have all the buzz words like saved on your clip board? The answer to everything in life isn't "you're a racist, sexist, whatever phobic". I know libs are incapable of independent thought and require talking points from your overlords but still good god.
What an amazingly closed minded response. Kinda supports the post. Thanks for that
Look up Peter Thiel, this was the reason he left SV
Peter Thiel is a gay republican, so not very good analogy to illustrate your point
...it is tho
Absolute money power corrupted absolutely. Tech people get more money think they always right. They not always right
Most engineers I know drive Toyotas and bring packed lunches and drink tea. So much power.
They wimp or they republic
Mechanical engineers at Boeing spend all day thinking of worst case scenarios, what could go wrong with this airplane. This is the right mindset to build safe aircraft. So it's logical they might have that conservative, danger-oriented view in politics. Why allow immigrants when we don't know them, why change a complex system when XYZ could fail. Googlers etc have never done high-consequence engineering where mistakes can kill people, so they just think it's all good, life is easy, let everyone do everything and just trust each other. They just do adtech and are in a super tight bubble
Did you actually compare skills of a Boeing and a google engineer? And you concluded Boeing engineers are more capable and careful? 😂😂 One tiny mistake by a google engineer and billions of people’s personal data is it on the web, including all of your weird nasty porn history.
@dimlefted I got an offer from Boeing last year as for an architect position with about 2 yoe. That speaks volumes about quality of engineers there.
I'm a bleeding heart liberal but am able to support my positions with well thought out arguments and even go after sacred cows. Watch this... " Hillary lost because she was a shitty candidate" 😁 so I don't care what political stripe you are if you can support your position with well reasoned and thoughtful points. Too many people on both sides live in bubbles and are unable to support their position. And I've got no time for those people

Will Tesla’s layoff trigger over all market layoff?
It is very dangerous to your career in tech to be noted for being conservative. At Boeing you will be ok since they have a lot of ex-military folks, but everywhere else you will want to keep it to yourself.
In many places you can’t even be a centrist.
I feel like just don't talk about politics at work in general. I'm pretty sure I'm slightly left leaning (as much as I try to stay centrist), it's still scary imo to talk about politics. As an immigrant, people sometimes say things like, "yea this administration is not really friendly to you" which I sometimes just feels like a trap. Or maybe it's just my anxiety.
