What do I do at Amazon if a peer has undermined me and convinced leadership (they blindly accepted the information my peer provided without engaging me) that he should take over my team? This resource openly admitted to doing this.
One stop calling then a resource. Understand the situation, if it cannot be salvaged, switch teams.
Start leetcode. You already know what to do
Nothing new. Move out of Amazon PIP factory!
Stay at Amazon if you still haven’t realized that you are in a toxic culture.
Wow.. this is exactly what’s happening to me.. and that’s why I am gtfo.. worked my ass off last year, still my efforts and wins are not appreciated enough by the only senior sde who is partial to another sde, have been given shitty features, no impact while other SDEs are given good .. I am beginning to think race is involved too..
I'm the only female leader in my team and this peer over the years has tried to make plays to do this but had been unsuccessful because of our leadership chain. We've been reorgd where I'm still the only female leader, but this time my peer has successfully, because this group traditionally has been tough on women (words from my old VP on my new department)
That’s very discouraging, I would escalate this to HR or file a lawsuit, these people need to pay. Or better yet, name shame and media exposure would work too
There are some battles you regret not fighting in future. If you think it is this, raise an objection to your senior leadership politely. They will obviously give some shit reason. Network within women in Amazon and find a mentor. Share your story. Female leaders are undermined all the time. Going to HR is seen as playing the woman card. So, build a network of female leaders within the company. Pm me if you want to discuss more. I worked in Amazon for 6 months and jumped to a more supportive org
Today he openly said in a leadership meeting... I know what I did was a pussie move, but I just don't want to work with you anymore. Then proceed to make comments about my leadership, especially about how my directs can't do their jobs. But hmmm that's not what my metrics or retrospectives say. I have a team project delivery of 15-18 projects and all retros speak wonders to how well the teams are working together.
What does ur leadership tell u?
Just shows that your leadership doesn’t have your back and trust your peer more, whether it’s valid or fair doesn’t matter because they call the shots and not you or someone else. It sucks, but find a team within Amazon or outside where your skip level has your back, and also take up some leadership coaching.

Life’s too short to deal with plebs like this. You can speak to your manager. If they are unsupportive bounce. From the data you’ve presented you sound like a good manager and will excel at other places. You can involve HR, if you feel like fighting.
I would have said, okay, let's see your stats. How many projects did you fully deliver this past fiscal? What were their impact? Is it you don't want to work with me or cause you can't because it's above your bar? My directs are doing great, you just don't know anything about the work or maybe you don't know about how work gets done in general. What's your delivery stats? I was a hard bastard when at AWS cause you have to be if you want to survive. Assuming you want to survive in the lowest pit of hell.
