I'm a Senior Product Manager with Yoe 12 at Bytedance right now (5 years in product). My wife and me wants to move to Europe, and I have just received an offer from a Berlin-based startup for same position. They are offering me EUR 85k base per year, and the company claims they are unable to provide as much as Singapore does because Germany's cost of living is lower. Kindly advise me on what I should do. I am not too sure what compensation to expect. Please help me how much I should ask if this is low. Current Base: 156K Tc: 250K #berlin
TC offered for Senior PM at a startup in Berlin seems right. It's not a high paying market in Germany
It's a startup, sounds right. Salaries in singapore are way higher and come with significantly less taxes than in Germany.
For most Berlin startups that seems about right. Given your experience though, you should aim for a higher quality company.
It's quite decent. You would belong to the top 10% earners with that salary
I dropped from 460k SGD in Singapore (Facebook) to 240k EUR in Berlin. I'm at an international startup now and I'm the only employee in Germany. We are 60 people total. I got lucky to be paid at a US standard. German salaries are brutal when you come from abroad. It's true that 85K counts as high here. In fact maybe top 10% of the population make that much. While it's good for people living in Germany the question is how much of a global citizen you are.
240k as a PM? Wow that's a lot! You might be in the 1% of Germany! Are you in an IC role or a leadership role. Would be great if you share your learnings here
I started as VP of Anakytics and now cover marketing and a part of commercial too as part of the c suite. Again i just got lucky to be hired by a then mostly US based company with us standards. Don't get me wrong, I'm good (I think) and in the US this would be fair pay, but in Europe you could get away with a lot less. You are right. It's too 1-2% when i calculated it. I will try to stay onboard and deliver as long as I can but it's a tough market these days and may only be a 3-4 year stint (I'm close to 2 now). Oh btw it's we are around 50 people and series b.
