Best Rate Guarantee Hack

All the big hotel chains: Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Accor etc. offer best rate guarantee. If you find a lower rate on Expedia for example, they’ll match and lower by an additional 25%. I used to do it a lot but then got lazy and relied on corporate rates until this week. Weekend trip to New York and didn’t really want to pay $500/night for a nice hotel, but the best I could find was a dated 4-star hotel for $202 with a corporate rate. Ended up sending a BRG claim to Marriott for a 5 star hotel in Times Square and it got accepted and I was given the sweet rate of $227 (45% off the published rate). If you have the time, it’s worth doing and you can save some good money and stay at a better hotel for cheap. Plus by booking direct you get to accumulate points, status etc. It applies to flexible rates too (just make sure lower rate has same cancellation policy) so you can cancel the booking if your claim is rejected. With Hilton you can call in without even booking anything first.
