Best SF companies?

Like many I want to leave Uber. But I am having a hard time finding a company in SF that has the same kind of material large scale impact on the real world and everyday people that Uber does (except maybe Lyft). Thought about Dropbox but can't get excited about collaborative work software. Fitbit failing. FB has no SF office. Google has a few but seems hard to guarantee you can get that. Who else should I be considering here?

Lyft lpFq00 Feb 26, 2017

Airbnb?

Uber upsidedown OP Feb 26, 2017

Good call. Will have to look deeper into this.

NerdWallet notherenow Feb 26, 2017

Why not look at AngelList (angel.co) and find a smaller startup where you can get in on the ground floor and build a team under you? Would take a tad bit research but might pay off.

Twitter if Dorsey ever leaves. (Sorry, man, you should only helm one failing company at a time, seriously.)

Twitter xglbgc3 Feb 26, 2017

Square is apparently doing alright...

Facebook instantidl Feb 26, 2017

Is this a joke? Square killed earnings and SQ is up 20% in a week.

Postmates Kenwood Feb 26, 2017

It's pretty awesome here, pay is great, startup vibe and culture are still alive (people aren't dead inside), our CEO is awesome and actually stands for good causes (we're currently holding a massive ACLU donation drive which the C-suite is matching from their own funds), and our internal numbers look good. PM me if you want me to fast track you

Uber Jdyevj Feb 26, 2017

I don't say this to mean offense but...does Postmates have a future? Generally curious to see what folks there think the growth prospects are

Postmates Kenwood Feb 26, 2017

No worries. I had the same doubts before I joined. Called in some favors and got some of their pitch decks. Basically the business is good but convincing investors to believe the story is hard in the on-demand space right now, which is why their latest round was a tough raise (lots of warrants and sweeteners but not a down round). Right now our growth is hockey stick (we doubled the active couriers in the last six months) and we're doing 2 million deliveries a month. We're #1 in most markets. UberEats is not a real threat because nearly every courier that leaves us to do UE comes back after they cash in the sign on bonus because UE pays shit and has no tips. Company's on track to be profitable on its own this year which is more than can be said about Uber's $2B/year freefall. Would I go long Postmates? Yeah, medium term; good fundamentals and IPO is in sight but who knows what the next downturn will do to the on-demand space

Twitter xglbgc3 Feb 26, 2017

Twitter is definitely up there in terms of impact on the world and everyday people... plenty of baggage of course, but at least not creepy or illegal baggage.

Uber wLxb84 Feb 28, 2017

Lots in my office left Twitter because they were victims of political intrigue there. Great engineers too

Wish funeeygrl Feb 26, 2017

Pssst, so I'm from Wish, it's pretty impactful on a global scale. Feel free to shoot me a message if you're curious!
