Best career path for Hardware/Imaging (possibly vision) for MS?

I am one year away from my graduation, with a year intern experience with good imaging/semi companies. I like hardware and image (both the hardware and algorithm) and think will build a career in either, especially in innovative section (design/architect/pathfinding). What is a good career path in this industry? How many typically years until a job change to max out TC? What are good companies with hardware/imaging group? I have a few interviews with Apple Camera Hardware, Meta Optics Supply but I am not sure about work/WLB/TC. Are FAANG/nvidia the holy grail of HW career? When do we stick with a company and climb to (Sr) Manager or higher in that company? Any other tips/advice is appreciated! #hardware #semiconductor #imaging #micron #intel #google

Hi @PIBw63, Could you please explain about the Qualcomm mobile camera team? I mean how is the work culture and work life balance, work load

Qualcomm PlBw63 Apr 6, 2022

Great work, lot to learn, lot more pay than any other org in qcom (same as 5g team) - but not very good wlb. Getting much better now thanks to crazy hiring

Also it's Pros and Cons

Have you thought about Apple?

Micron hynix59 OP Apr 6, 2022

Yes, can you share any insight into any camera team of Apple?

Apple whatswfh Apr 15, 2022

Camera org is pretty chill I’ve heard

Apple shdbsn Apr 6, 2022

Just avoid seg

Apple anthonyda Apr 6, 2022

Why do you say so

Micron hynix59 OP Apr 6, 2022

Can you elaborate? Before marriage, I am willing to put in hours as long as it’s good tc and innovative. Is seg suitable choice?

NVIDIA GxfhnE27 Apr 6, 2022

It’s not too late still. Unless you hate sw, leetcode and take sw career.

Micron hynix59 OP Apr 6, 2022

What kind of positions do you think that could benefit from my hardware/layout/semi skills?

Micron hynix59 OP Apr 6, 2022

I don’t despise sw but would prefer something related to hw

Western Digital Phan Tom Apr 6, 2022

FAANG for sure in the algorithm team.

Best advice here: HWE-> SWE for tc optimization Source: hardware veteran here

Micron hynix59 OP Apr 6, 2022

Thank you. What good SW positions are related to HW that has good tc? Or has to be pure SW?

Cisco jimmy john Apr 6, 2022

It’s all sunk cost. Just go for a pure swe role. The further away you are from hardware level, the more tc you make. Be the software guy that knows about hardware. Don’t be the hardware guy that knows about software.

DM me for Sony Image sensor group. We have a very strong imaging team.

Thank you, check your dm please!

Meta camera HW doing some great stuff. But I’d probably steer away from Supplier Quality type roles. Stick with actual HW design. Same applies for Apple.

Qualcomm KaMp83 Apr 8, 2022

What do you mean by Supplier Quality?

Micron hynix59 OP Apr 8, 2022

It was the exact position I was interviewed. The team dealt with optical components in a data server: optical transceiver, fiber, TOR etc. testing (signal processing,…), maintaining those
