Hi everyone, I work at Amazon currently as an L4 PM. I’m in HR/L&D, managing hybrid programs that are both technical and programmatic. In full transparency, I’m not sure that I would be a strong fit for a TpM right off the bat. I do have tech overlap, and I work with developers on my program/am heavily involved in sprint planning and technical strategy. I’ve been with Amazon about a year and a half, and in full honesty can say that I do like it. Might be a rare opinion, but I like that it is varied and I have a chance to work on many different components of the product. I also quite like the fast paced nature, for me it means innovation is thriving because I’m allowed to explore so many things and make so many amazing connections. My product also serves an audience of about 500,000 employees per quarter. My wlb is good, and I’ve been very lucky to have great managers this whole time. My work can be under stimulating, and that’s one of the callouts I would have. I’m not burning out or anything though, just sort of present and going through all the motions to be as helpful and productive as possible. I’m not sure that L&D is the best fit for me, but it’s working. #pm #product #productmanager #pm #product #productmanager I’m up for promotion, and really pumped about that (will find out by Sept). What I’m considering most is that I found out sometimes with L5 promotion there is no raise or stock increase. Have any of you had experience going L4>5 at Amazon? What was your TC increase? RSU increase? Want to add that I have a masters in I/O psychology, know SQL, Java, HTML, and CSS. I’ve been working on Python and applying scripts to some of the work I’m doing. Lean Six Sigma certified, PMP in progress. I’m casually looking at other companies and reviewing my options. I want the very best for my family first and foremost, and pay is central to that as I provide for my family and my disabled daughter. My questions are: - If you’ve gone or know anyone who’s promoted L4>5 at Amazon, what did the compensation portion look like? - for those of you who found Amazon to be overall enjoyable, how does your new/subsequent companies stack up? Do you feel as happy? Have good benefits? - if I were to look into other companies I’d want to work from home still. I have a little one with Autism and it helps a lot to have me engaging with her routines and getting her off the bus in the afternoon, etc. - in full transparency, is my current TC awful for the level? High for the level? And what types of TC should I be exploring or I guess what is possible out there for an L5 level PM? - Would you stay put or start to browse? Current Base: $62k Sign on: $15k RSU: ~$30k Experience: 5 years, 2 in PM and 1 in analytics Thankful for any advice or experiences you can share with me. Thank you so much for reading. :)
I hope you mean 162k base? And YoE?
Editing to add: 5 years experience, 2 in PM directly
Also nope, it’s written correctly
Is this usa ? Something doesn’t add up.
This is USA, I’m based in Washington.
I want to add on here that I just joined Blind a few days ago and started to realize things weren’t adding up. The reason I haven’t looked at other salaries is because I am comfortable with my team, I like them and I have great wlb. I’ve been focused on getting to L5 this whole time. I’m being 100% serious and honest. I’ve also formed strong relationships with my peers and a few have asked me what I was offered. I did not tell them, but they told me what they were making. They were making less than me. Not by a significant margin maybe $1-2 k less. Amazon did increase their “cap” for pay after I joined, and that may also factor into my offer vs new hire offers today. I’ve been told that with promotions that internal promos don’t get anywhere near the amount new hires are offered. I’ve prepared myself mentally to expect $90-100k base if I’m lucky, but likely less. I now see that’s still significantly lower than the norm. I’m going to begin looking at other companies and start applying. Any tips or recommendations on companies where the culture and wlb are good?
I know police officers making more than you, leave Amazon
What are your thoughts on how other companies compensate someone that’s an L5 level? Do you have any suggestions for what companies to look into?
