What are some of the best companies for TPM role in terms of TC and career growth for person who have less than 5 yoe. As Google offers L4 and TC is not that great as compared to other companies for similar role. Microsoft Program manager and product manager are interchangeable..so I guess, it's brownie poin to move the career into product management too Thoughts?
Have you received L4 at google? Or are you just speculating?
Microsoft
I have basic coding skills
The coding skills won’t be to help you code for your job, they will be to help you gain respect from your devs.
You don't need to code for a living ...but if you have data querying & analysis skills and on top of that can do basic scripting to do number/ file crunching ...so that you can drive insights and create direction for your team or make life of your Dev team easier ....then your Dev team will worship you. Partner with your EM and Sr engineers and help them connect dots ...Once you have your engineers respect you will rise fast ! ... TPM is a tricky place to be... Engineers can have fragile egos ...so the trick is to support them/ educate them / defend & protect their time ...but not hog glory ( unfortunately) ...FB and Google are both great places for TPM's like these Never become the note taker for someone else ... Push back on that ...whoever Runs the meeting takes notes Generally L5 at G and FB is considered somewhat senior ...l4 would be mid level .. so pay will be commensurate
