What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Decided to make a switch to data science. But I’m a mechanical engineer. Just wondering if there’s a company that’s hiring data analyst and placing them on a track to data science? (I know ibm might but there’s some issues with internal transfers and they take forever lol).
One day we just retitled all of our analysts to data scientists
Thing is that data analyst is within the job description of my job. I do data analytics + hardware stuff. How to explain that to recruiters via my resume is the hard part. So I’m just trynna get the dumb title so I can go for the data science one right after.
Don’t blame you at all. The distinction is becoming more and more arbitrary at many companies
Do you know SQL?
Yeah.
lol should I start applying for full data science roles?
Good. Hmmm, I wonder if you could just change your title on your resume to data analyst? Or put engineer - data analyst. And list out your analyst tasks
Unless you want to be deploying models to production like a MLE, you are already on the DS track. Ask yourself how to apply stats, modelling techniques to the problem you are already having to solve as a DA.
The reason I choose data analyst is because I do data analyst stuff at my job in the daily. It’s part of being a ME in a tech company. The issue is the title. When I apply the recruiters don’t seem to see past my Mechanical Engineering title. So I’m trynna pivot to a job with that title and go down that path.
just start applying to data scientist roles. most experienced recruiters know it's the same thing. the old school view of a data scientist being some phd that does magic with numbers and gets engineers to productionize their fancy models is obsolete.
