My younger sister who is a junior in college wants to get into hardware/semi conductor’s industry. Im not an engineer and was wondering which company would you think would provide the best learning experience.
Google. I mean seriously. Google has now increasing semiconductor unit.
I love the google/Infineon radar gesture tracking stuff.
Where is Apple !!! It has a pretty amazing HW team
I would say Qualcomm and Nvidia are better than most of these companies
Oculus
Apple?
I work in Intel and move to Google soon. Google is cherry picking best guys from Intel.
Take me with you 😛
Intel? Outdated tools that no one else is using!
Intel will teach you the most rigorous stuff. After that you will find other companies work relatively easy. Interviewed with apple many times successfully and found the work to be a step down. Intel 3-4 years in a hard core group, move to apple/google at a high grade.
Not saying this because I work at AMD. The poll results are tilted towards Intel because there are more Intel folks here. :D I agree HW is not the place to be these days, but your poll shows how disconnected you are from HW. No Apple or Google there or even Oculus at FB. Surprised you even have Dell, Xerox, Netapp there and I don't even know what Kla is.
Also Nvidia
KLA Tencor - silicon wafer production and packaging equipment. Hells no. It's like putting Lam Research or Applied Materials on this list.
Advice from a long time semiconductor guy. Don't get into HW. I would vote none.
Why? Low pay.
You shouldn't pick your job based on pay alone. If you did, you should have become a high frequency stock trader or a corporate lawyer. Most people would live happily in a field that they enjoy and in an environment that they enjoy. The moment your goals lead to you constantly measuring yourself against others, you will be perpetually unhappy. In a world of multiple billions, there is somebody better than you in every aspect of your life individually and on the whole.
