I need to file taxes for first time by myself (had help with Deloitte before). As an H1B worker from Europe in the US without complex deductions except for foreign capital gains, what should I do? CPA or tax software, and in case it’s the later, which? Turbo tax? My situation: Late 20s W2 Single Rent Capital gains (rather losses), US and Europe No major deductions #cpa #irs #tax
I used cash app taxes and it does the job. It’s free too
I paid for someone to do my taxes for the first time last year (after doing it myself for over 5 years). Worth it. I did it in person with h&r block
Would they be able to handle my foreign capital gains/losses?
Yup I had a bit of a complicated three state situation last year and they were able to handle all under 30 mins.
TurboTax or any other tax software that holds your hand and walks you through the tax preparation process. It is better than having someone do it for you, since you get to know what the process looks like, and why you are paying the taxes you are paying. This will prepare you for making smarter financial decisions in the future.
TurboTax. Don’t look at my company name.
If Deloitte did it last year then you already have a prior year tax return to index upon so go for Turbo Tax or some other tax prep software.

Do they support nonresident aliens (H1B workers)?
Yes. Used them 12 years on h1b with foreign bank account, stocks, 401k, rsus, rental income, mortgage etc.
