Hey folks, I work in backend/full-stack/infra eng. I'm looking to start my own consulting shop on the side with a couple friends, but I need stable income and health insurance while I bootstrap. What companies can you think of that are: • Fully remote • 10 hr/wk • Very chill work Nice to have: • 4+ wk annual vacation • Easygoing culture I once worked at T-Mobile and it was super easy, some weeks I only worked 5 hr/wk. I have heard Salesforce, Adobe, LinkedIn mentioned so far. Are telcos a good bet here? Referrals welcomed! #chill #restandvest #remote
LinkedIn is NOT what you are describing lol. That was 2018 LinkedIn.
Thx!
+1 do NOT join LinkedIn. Culture has gone much down hill for a couple years.
Cisco is a great place to work, as they embrace the work style we all desire.
Errrr, no, Cisco sucks. Upper management are woke imbeciles and the place is imploding.
Really depends on the BU/product. I was led to believe there was WLB but I don’t think I’ve managed less than 50-60 hours a week, and that’s what I see for most people in my org. A few teams have good line managers that manage to help them maintain some sanity but the percentage is steadily shrinking.
At MSFT you might get away with 20 to 25 hrs depending on the org. 10 hr/week without pip/lite seems impossible.
Not any more. Constant re orgs and "silent layoffs". Remote first isnt a thing.
Pardon my ignorance but what is Microsoft's stance on remote work? I'm open to working there but I am not looking to relocate.
It’s got nothing to do with the number of hours you put on. I’ll say it again - hours have nothing to do with it. It is all about what you produce and how you present it to your manager.
Basically becoming a BS politician then hence why corporate sucks
This. It’s a game and a game you optimize for. Those who recognize the pattern and optimize for it are more often rewarded than their counterparts
So you want a remote FTE job and work only 5hrs/wk? That's why employers are now requiring RTO and firing remote staff. I run my own consulting company and ill tell you right now that you will get a rude awakening. Customers will drive you waaay harder than any employer would and if you dont deliver they will fire your agency.
Of course! I take the consulting work seriously because I'm actually taking that money home. I'm not going to work hard for someone else to take 70% of my cash, though
How can one get started in that space? I know that’s a broad question but I’d like to know your experience
IBM bro
Thanks. Is it as rest and vest as it sounds? How are they for remote?
I personally have worked 5 hours a week sometimes. Very chill. Not fully remote unfortunately unless you can work something out when you are hired
Will get pip
He is 5hr per week, not per day. Google, my ass

Adobe is no more a WLB company post pandemic. Many orgs (AEP, FireFly) have toxic work culture with management forced unrealistic expectations, stack ranking, insane work hours, burnout, blame games, quiet cutting, PIPs and silent layoffs. These orgs are worse than average orgs in Amazon. All other orgs too have compulsory quarterly goal setting, quarterly performance reviews and serious micromanagement post pandemic.
Where do they get these ideas from? It feels like they just go to the same courses of how to fuck up everyone. You described post pandemic atlassian well
Is this also true for research scientist/engineer positions?

I haven't updated my account since I last worked there back in 2017, sorry
Got it. Dell is good, comp not good. But the benefits and WLB are unbeatable.
