I’m finishing up my MS CS program and am about apply for SWE positions (likely in applied ML/NLP) at FAANG-like companies plus a few startups. Should I send out my apps now or after the holiday break? It’s probably company-dependent, but would headcount be better in 2020? Would my app be more likely to get overlooked/forgotten during the holidays? Any other considerations? I already have 2-3 YOE so I’m not going for new grad positions. Thanks!
Most companies are still figuring out or wrapping up their budgets and headcount plans for 2020. Also, it is holiday season. A lot of people are taking vacation. The office is more empty than normal. Best time seems to be in the spring (March/April). Not only is all the new headcount opened up, lots of people change teams/companies during this time as they were waiting for their bonus or RSU payout before leaving.
