I am very interested in stuyding quatitative trading and eventually I want to get a job in that field. I have some experience in SQL and Python, but I don't know where to start to become competitive. Would it be sufficient enough to begin with watching Youtube videos and trying to implement my own strategies using Python (Quantopian)? Thanks in advance!
I’m also prepping for quant but not because of the money, but because I like math so the prepping is something I’d do in my free time anyways😀😆. What I’ve been doing is basically going through a bunch of math competition questions, on the level of aime, usamo, and Putnam but mainly aime because I keep getting stumped by usamo and Putnam problems.
Not being sarcastic but this is a question: Do you think someone can actually be trained to become exceptional at math? I graduated from a decent university with a degree in math but I found there are so many talented people and I was not one of them.
Yes of course. I consider The brain like a muscle. Some people are born stronger and some people grow muscle faster, but regardless exercise will definitely make you stronger.
Ya you need hella computer science and math skills
They don’t care about courses like coursera/udacity, if you want a shot start taking grad classes at a top-12 school. Pretty hard wo relevant work experience or masters degree
I'm actually preparing to apply for Financial Engineering program within the next two years. I know many people say FE does not make you a quant/trader. What's your thought on this?
So for full transparency I’m in ME, not a quant. If you’re currently a SWE at a reputable firm I would work towards doing a part time FE since you’ll be loosing a lot of income taking two years off. IMO a FE at a top program will get you in the door
