Best way to protect myself in US
I live HCOL for 3y with my wife and 2 kids. Many times we wanting to move for better neighbors with less crime. Market is so tuff and layoffs made me scared. I will work so many hours and going office 5days a week. Now, i come back 12 at night, there is no one the street. Suddenly someone asks me fire. All i say is Sir I don't smoke. He then hit me and run away with my food (biryani). Now, it is clearly i need to stay ground and fight! What is best way yo fight Team blind?

Flashlight and Pepper spray is missing out of your poll. That’s the correct answer for this situation. Other situations would require different.
Situational awareness. If the street was empty, then you should have been paying attention and saw them coming.
You were mugged because you were easy prey. Don't present yourself as weak and unprepared. Weapons are not a substitute for situational awareness and knowing how to handle yourself in such situations.
Save hundreds of more people from having to deal with the scum with some accurately applied lead.
