I got an interview from OpenAI and it's set to 2 weeks (think thursday). If I were to have any chance of passing, I have to start interview prep. That would mean me halting work for my startup. Am wondering how yall would determine My startup is : Early stage / got into pre-accelerator program like Antler / working on pre-seed fundraising / I am a techinical co-founder with 50% stake of company. OpenAI position is infra/backend role. Wanna hear your input Yoe: 5 TC (Back at Cruise) : 310k#engineering #openai #startup
Couldn’t u just grind ridiculously hard for two weeks? Maybe go light on the star-up and all in on interview prep? I’d b hesitant to give up your startup,
How did you get an interview with OpenAI
Recruiter reached out
Why do you want to startup ? Would you prefer a stable job over being a founder ? Do you back yourself to get a good job in case the startup doesn’t work out? What if I told you that you had the openAI offer in hand, would you quit your startup, then you might as well go ahead and prepare for the interview. For context, I was an applied scientist at Amazon and I’m currently doing my own startup. As cliche it may sound, it takes a lot of passion to build a successful startup. Blind is heavily dominated by people more inclined to do jobs rather than startup on their own. So my opinion might be in the minority. But if I were you, I’d give my all to the startup. Talk to the openAI recruiter, and keep the connection warm. So that you can reach out to them in the future
OP, what did u decide?
This is not even a question. Companies like OpenAI will be a once in a lifetime opportunity, whereas you can run a startup any time. It’s not like you raised $15M at a $60M post for your startup so don’t worry about ditching it
