Do big pharma companies like Johnson and Johnson, Medtronic, Merck etc. offer company RSUs?
Depends on the level, at Merck and jnj (at least on pharma r&d side) you need to be at the principal scientist level to have rsu as part of standard compensation package (meaning you get a grant every year). Smaller biotechs will generally give rsu or options at all levels.
Concur. In the corporate / non-R&D side, grants are part of a standard package and generally vest over 3-4 years.
Why is it so ? These companies do make a lot of revenue / income. Some of these companies are in the Bay Area/ tech hubs. How do they retain talent ?
Where would people go? To another biotech where they are treated poorly? Matter-of-fact, it is NOT talent that gets people rapidly promoted in biotech. It is who knows who. The reason why you see so many lousy, extremely incompetent individuals in management and senior management roles in biotech and big pharma.
Absoultey! Can be anywhere from 5000 at the associate level, 35,000 at associate director, 100,000 at exec director and onwards. Typically vest over 3-4 years
I’m applying for Roche and they said only directors and above get RSU
Do we get any RSU at CVS? I am applying for a SW position and hence asking
Nope
I’m in R&D and they don’t offer any that I’m aware of (perhaps at higher levels, I’m in a senior manager role) but others have said they offer random discounts to buy stock- I haven’t been here for a year yet but apparently it’s on an annual basis
It’s probably not guaranteed until director level. Likely discretionary for your level, but possible. Something to ask during your performance review!
I can’t speak for all of them but these large public pharma companies almost always give RSUs. Each company can be quite different on how they do it, as well as who receives them. In my experience you had to reach a certain tier within the company to begin receiving any of these. So much entry level positions wouldn’t receive them but more senior or executive level staff would benefit from this. Again I can’t speak for all but that was the experience myself and many of my colleagues in industry had across these different companies.
Yes at senior levels and random employee bonuses. Not the expectation where Im at
Depends on level totally some are more generous than others. Mine is stingy and cryptic about who gets it on my team. This year I’m thinking they will be mine. Higher up they are more generous for those really close to the sun.
At J&J there are no RSUs below management level for IT roles. Can’t speak for other roles in the company.

Generally, yes. (Not sure about the specific companies you listed though.) probably less than RSUs for the same level at a big tech company though.
