How can I become a quant researcher at top hedge funds? I graduated this December from a no name uni, which I attended due to lack of money. I have awesome academic profile, but sadly couldn't go for masters due to lack of money. I have been working at a startup in bay area for 3 weeks now and pay is good. I have interviews with Amazon, Dropbox and Bloomberg later this week too. So, I will save enough money to invest in my education by this year end. I can: 1. Go to Brown for masters in ML and take many maths classes in December. 2. Get in Stanford for masters and do the same in next Fall. Are there other options?
Why would you need ml for quant job?
Sorry, I know very little about Quant researchers. What do I need for quant then?
traditional finance and statistical methods
Don't waste your time grinding the academia machine when all the materials is available on YouTube and Kindle ebooks?
That would not land me to Jane street, would it,
Appropriate connections will go much longer than a degree
my understanding is that quants generally have PhD and/or some sort of computational finance degree from a brand name school, with 3.8+ gpa
Will masters not do?
if your GPA is at or above 3.8, there might be a chance--have you applied yet?
Standford is a big hoe if you dont have money
I make plenty of money now. So, will have enough by the time I need it.
