Although any layoff sucks, I think fedex did right here. The typical cut from the bottom made little to no sense to me. These people were doing all the work. To cut execs and directors in times like these make much more sense, especially at companies like fedex where the normal person prob makes 70-120k wkth no stocks. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2023/02/01/fedex-lays-off-officers-directors-amid-cooling-demand.html
Funny how everyone in Blind thinks that the company runs only because of the ICs. Managers and hierarchy exist for a reason, they either make your work and growth feel like a breeze or living hell.
I think we’d manage, lets try and see.
That's somewhat true. But if the economy is slowing and growth is not the concern, but stability is having few managers, it might help because they just need to make sure things are running well. But the problem we have it if we start cutting managers, they pull in their reports, high performers. Which might be a double loss for the firm. So firms keep managers around and cut IC because manager has historical contexts, and they will get junior IC to work. Evil but it's a necessary evil.
Managers are useless , just waste developer’s time .
That's a stretch. But I scheduled that alotta companies have an excessive amount of managers
This 100%
It’s what all companies should do, cut directors and above since they’re not producing anything.
Yep. Laying off actual workers never made any sense to me.
It’s that old boys club mentality, “you scratch my asshole, I’ll scratch yours.”
