Blind TC numbers

Are the stupidly high numbers we see on blind and levels.fyi based on most people making this much or is it just that a few people on the top make that? I've been interviewing a bunch lately and have gotten a few offers but most offers don't even come close to the numbers I see on here. Also companies seem extremely unwilling to budge on their offers even with me negotiating

Do you mean that the companies are offering you less than levels.fyi shows for those *same* companies? From what I've seen and heard, the site is accurate for FAANG at least.

Bloomberg smallbrian OP Nov 2, 2019

Not less but on the lower end of the spectrum. And the recruiters are pretty adamant about mentioning they believe this to be fair compensation. Also for those companies which don't have as much data, I notice they come in significantly below what some people here make

Have you used the multiple offers to play them off each other?

Which company did you get offer from? You cant expect to get high TC from shit companies

People aren’t paid what they’re worth, they’re paid what they’re able to negotiate.

Bloomberg smallbrian OP Nov 2, 2019

How do you negotiate with recruiters who are adamant and don't wanna budge without pissing them off and telling them you'll walk away?

Intuit c9a4b Nov 2, 2019

In my experience, you don’t negotiate with a recruiter. They pass you over to someone in house. If they don’t want to budge, you tell them about the other companies you have offers with, and you stick to your word and decline if they can’t meet your expectations. It’s all just a dance. Kind of posturing, but your position actually has to be strong for you to follow through. Otherwise you’re bluffing. Which could work out, but no guarantee.

The site is accurate for FAANG. I didn’t believe it until I got my offer, and even then I thought I got lucky and was probably top of the pay band. Turns out I’m crawling at the bottom of what I could be making here (TC 175K L5)

Dang, that Amazon frugality is real. That was my new grad offer at Google

I was in the same position about not believing it and took the leap to assume it was when I just negotiated and I hit it pretty much on the button. A little lower but round it or a quarters worth of the stock rising and I’m right what it said it was. Now Blind was a bit higher than levels but not by much

Quite accurate for both FAANG n non-FAANG. If u think they are super high, it means you didn’t hit the jackpot yet

Bloomberg smallbrian OP Nov 3, 2019

What's also interesting to me is that several people with just 2-4 yoe are in higher positions and getting paid bank. And someone with much more experience coming gets in at a lower position. I understand this would be the case for high performers but there's data like this all over levels.fyi

if the recruiter is an agency recruiter, they’re most likely telling you the truth. if the recruiter is internal, there’s probably many other things at play and for one reason or another, the company has limited the budget to XX for your role. i’d also agree that levels.fyi is pretty accurate for the most part. however, FAANG and other larger chip companies such as Intel, have their hands in multiple domains so it’s challenging to determine if a l5 SWE is working on robots or the back end api feature on the website — where toc for both L5 SWE would be drastically different at the same company.

Fake TC news all over in blind !!

Microsoft manAtArms Nov 2, 2019

Did that already. Could u be more gullible?!!!

OP give the offer you received, value and companies, then blind can help you decide if your expectations are too high or if the recruiters are lying
