Reading through a lot of post, it seems that Blind is so toxic against companies not based in Seattle or Bay Area. Also most of the comments seem to have never been to those cities but still trashes those cities. 🤦♂️
And also I see lots of posts bashing the bay as impossible to own a house, have kids, etc.
Bashing about COL yes, bashing about companies no.
It’s possible only if you are making big $$$ otherwise isn’t this true?
No blind is just biased against low TC
Well, a post I have seen is like 150k in Austin vs 250k in Bay both prestigious companies and Blind was trashing the Austin offer all over the place. But 150k is actually a pretty good offer compared to the Bay one.
... because it's different by 100k. 150k in Austin may be good for the area, but 100k is an extra like 5k per month in your pocket after taxes. That extra amount is enough to cover a nice 4 bedroom house in most of the Bay area, and housing is the biggest differentiator. So you will make a lot more money in the bay, and from a career development choice it's so much better than Austin for software.
Who is blind? it’s all of us contributing ..if most of us are in Silicon Valley..why do we talk about anything outside of it?
See...another one👆. Blind is not just Silicon Valley, the whole world is using it.
I said “most of us” ...can you please start a poll asking people where are they working currently, may be that will give you an answer to your this post as well.
Blind should have regional forums. That way the Midwest crowd doesn’t have to hear the TC noise of the Bay and Seattle.
Agreed! Or different boards would do it.
There'd be like 10 people in it then
Best part is life in the Bay is awful.
OP your company name doesn't even show up. If you want more representation, then encourage your coworkers to join blind. Otherwise blind is governed by the majority, which is the bay area/Seattle
I am in a start at the Bay also. I am just stating a fact.
People should be able to give their honest opinions on blind. If people feel like companies from middle America is inferior then they have a right to give advice based on their opinions
Suppose it is, then what? If you notice bias then simply adjust for it when taking advice.
There's life outside of the bay ??
I drove into a parking lot in urban area recently. All convenient spots were for small cars and FEVs. My big ass diesel truck had a hard time squeezing into a spot far from entrance. Fuck it. I like countryside
Reality is pay and opportunities are just less outside the biggest markets. Doesn't mean those companies suck, but having a fast career velocity is much harder, if that's important to you.
You forgot NYC too
No NYC still gets trashed too.
