Blind spot monitor for cars

Thinking of buying a car and want a blind spot information system in it. The ones that are in my budget don’t have blis. I was thinking of using the blind spot mirror instead. Has anyone used the blind spot mirror and what is the experience with it? Are the easily removable?

Walmart has some dollar ones they will stick on.

Do they come off easily and are they useful?

Yahoo oic Jul 21, 2018

You are better off with those dollar mirrors, I tried both with blind spot camera and sensor, none of those are as efficient as good old fisheye mirrors, also with blis, for any problem with your side view mirrors, the repair cost is much higher.

Did your find those dollar mirrors useful? It looks so small not sure if it helps while driving?

Yahoo oic Jul 21, 2018

Bigger ones are better of course. Though in really high temperature like in melting Arizona, there is a chance of falling off. But in California it didn’t happen with me so far.

Blind Spot Monitoring is achieved by side-firing microwave transmission from inside the rear bumper. The side mirror only contains an LED. Most Toyota’s and Honda’s have lane keeping and blind spot monitors, as do Subaru and I’m sure the Korans have it too.

The new Korans have it, but the sensors get jammed when it's sunni out. The high end models of Torah also have it, but there's an interlock that stops you from turning it on or off on the weekend, so make sure you turn it on before sundown.

The real blind monitor should show TC of a drivers ahead of you, behind you, and on both sides.

Pathetic sense of humor

Even Hyundai Elantras nowadays come with blind spot monitoring. Did you do a thorough check?

It’s a second hand BMW that I am planning to get. It doesn’t have blind spot monitoring

They don’t even work in the rain

Just point your side mirrors to show your blind spot. I switched years ago

Facebook Buddy Guy Jul 22, 2018

This! Most people set their side mirrors so they can just barely see the side of the car from their normal driving position. Don't do that. Lean your head against the window and THEN set your mirror so you can just barely see the side of the car. Tip your head the same distance in the other direction to set the right side mirror. Then watch in amazement as cars pass from your rear view to your side view to your peripheral vision, with no blind spot.

Just learn to drive.

Facebook mpk0 Jul 21, 2018

How about just turn your head before you change a lane? It's free and makes you a better driver every time you do it.

Are you seriously arguing that more information is worse?

Facebook i0mr Jul 22, 2018

I would argue the same. There is a limit on the amount of information can be processed in a fraction of a second. Also, good drivers look in mirror twice to catch the difference. There was a fantastic article few months ago written by a former fighter jet pilot which explains how a single glance into a mirror can’t prevent worst kinds of collisions. I recommend looking it up. It was very enlightening to me.
