I recently got an offer for a senior engineer role at BBG. TC 330k. I also heard there's a soft cap on IC salaries, and the only way to go up after hitting the cap is to go into management. Is this true? What is the cap possibly be, and what yearly salary increase could look like for a senior IC? Thanks all.
Are you on h1b and fo you already have a green card ?
Wow Bloomberg is paying senior hires 330k,? How were ur ivs. Which team?
Can't say for sure but I doubt an IC salary will go beyond 350-360 but may be things have changed
350-360 is as high as it gets for IC with lots of experience and impact. 330 is a really good offer.
That is a very strong top percentile offer. You'll likely find it difficult to get more than a 5%+ yearly raise. The problem is that when you join they're competing against other companies, but when it comes to raises you're competing against some very competent but underpaid engineers. The bar to exceed expectations is extremely high. Your best options are to stay for a couple years and then leave, or go into management.
This is a great perspective. What are the options and chances of "going into management"?
Going into management isn’t easy, but it’s probably easier than being a high performing IC. If you are a strong communicator and express interest early, your TL is likely to help you prepare to grow into management. It’s a hard job though. Managers have no clear job description at BBG. You have to really mold into what your team needs. Congrats on the offer!
How many yoe?
