Hey Blinders who work @ Bloomberg in NYC - How do you like working there? -Is in-office voluntary? -How's the NYC office culture? Is it corporate/'stuffy' (for some reason, I imagine ppl dressed in suits all day...) -Desk sharing? Snacks? Free breakfast/lunch? #bloomberg #office #jobs
I worked at Bloomberg for a few years fresh out of school. Some teams are chill, some are ass. I had both experiences lol. The office is nice. Free snacks. I was in office before covid and left during covid so I can't speak to how it is now, but I can't imagine it would have changed a ton. The "lunch" is a small cup of soup but you gotta get in line otherwise people that take 2, 3, 8+ cups get it all (and only one spoon!). Breakfast options were bagels, toast, and yogurt. Again, gotta be early or they're all gone. Snack options are alright. Office itself is open office but each person gets their own desk. BB is more stuffy than proper tech companies, but it's still casual and chill for engineers. Main downsides of BB are the completely antiquated tech and lower pay (no RSUs but cash comp is similar). Most tech at Bloomberg is proprietary and just about none of it satisfies modern best practices. The company moves at a glacial pace, which can be a pro or a con. If you just want to put in your hours, get a check, and never worry about doing anything of actual substance or getting laid off, then BB could be for you. If you want to build things and keep up transferable skills then maybe think twice. Overall it's not a bad place to work, but there are reasons that people there either leave before 4-5 years or stay for life with no in-between. It's easy to pigeonhole yourself there.
3 days in office, free snacks, good place
@Bloomberg - what about breakfast/lunch? Maybe it was another company, but I recall reading somewhere that Bloomberg started offering free daily meals to attract tech workers. TY!
Princeton office has breakfast and lunch. Not aware of dinner. NY use to offer during COVID but not anymore.
How are things looking now after covid, I heard u get some credits($25/day) to spend on lunch if u are coming to office, is it true??
No
Ok, Is BBG still offering free lunch in offices then?
With all the tech layoffs and crypto crash staring a recession in 2023, how will Bloomberg do? Got an offer and bit worried about joining now. My current place is chill and tc bump at BB is significant
Bloomberg is a pretty stable place and historically does fine in recessions even.
In office mandatory 3 days a week (team dependent) my team is 2 days a week. Lots of people in hoodies and tshirts. I never see devs in suits. Maybe a couple will wear a dress shirt You get your own desk Lots of free snacks and drinks Breakfast is toast bagels yogurt No free lunch. No soup anymore. No meal credits, nothing for lunch. They used to have free lunch to get people back in the office but they stopped like 2 weeks ago
Well no free lunch sucks
So does Bloomberg have in-house cafeteria or do you guy go out for lunch?

Bloomberg seems cool. I never worked there, so just conjecture. But they don’t give a flying fuck about critical bugs. Must be cool culture.
Haha tell me about these critical bugs
