I like Bloomberg but don’t really like management as my only option in advancing my career. Friend mentioned no technical track at the company after senior. What do all the folks do after senior SWE? TC: 200k
It’s not a tech company.
Very unfortunately it is true. If you don't want to do management and you are not on the team that really has a technical growth potential (most of teams are driven by incremental revenues and maintaining existing service). You should look elsewhere. Your comp will stagnate soon.
YoE?
To answer OP’s question directly - correct no clear track for IC. However it doesn’t mean most SWE don’t get rewarded but it’s hard to feel it as you don’t jump levels. So on a really good year you can get +$20k
Ah! Thanks, super helpful
More than seniors have no track because they are allowed everything. They have touched so many bits and bear responsibility and knowledge of so many critical systems that they have whatever they want. Super Seniors leave because the mess they created scale out of what they can manage and the only thing they are not allowed to do is hand over responsibilities of those mess that no one else can pick up.
You got tons of upside in comp as senior engineer at Bloomberg. Once you cross 350 tc as senior engineer then worry about if you need to have a different track. Focus on getting into a team that can make a big impact.
Leave and go to a tech company.
