Bloomberg internal job switching

1) How easy or difficult is to switch between different teams within the same vertical and between different verticals all together ? 2) Does the company assist or resist if someone raises this wish to HR or current manager ? 3) Does the manager of the current team has a lot of say in this decision ? 4) How frequent have you seen this happening ? Thanks in advance.

1. Depends on the two managers, our policy is to encourage internal movement. 2. Don't raise this with HR. Your manager is supposed to assist, but again, depends on the manager. I have had good luck, and plenty of people I know have been able to move. This is the tricky part, because letting your manager know implies you are no longer interested in working in the current team. This potentially means you will not be given important projects, and it is best for you to move to a different team. So be sure you want to move before letting anyone know. 3. They have a say in deciding the transition date. 4. Most people switch teams after 4-5 years, so I've seen this a lot.

Unrelated but would like your thoughts on another thing : Is the work life balance only good for SWE roles or is it in general true for all verticals and is embedded in the culture of the firm itself ?

1) there is an internal job board where you can see all of the roles available for transfer. you can apply through this board without notifying your current manager, and begin having conversations with the hiring manager. overall, it's very easy (but can be hindered in the latter stages by a poor current manager) 2) definitely assist. there are recruiters dedicated to internal mobility, you can reach out to them for assistance with finding a good fit (and they will not notify your manager until you're ready to tell them) 3) they do have some say. you have to be considered "in good standing" with the company to be eligible to switch, so a negative manager could cause problems for you by saying you have been underperforming or something like that. but generally, they don't have a chance to be reactive with that, it would need to be an issue that they had already raised through performance reviews or something similar 4) very frequent, in my opinion
