Bloomberg offer
Received an offer from Bloomberg for nyc office. Need opinion on what would be a better choice. I am currently sd2 at Amazon. Is 290k cash($233 k base + 57k bonus). Is 290k good amount to live with family and commute to nyc. How will be Bloomberg as a career choice: growth, wlb, benefits. How is Bloomberg as a brand for future? Amazon bonus will end in December and I will on base + stocks( sad reality). A)accept bloomberg offer( 3 days office) B) stay at amazon(Phoenix + wfh) Current tc: on the floor( after stocks situation) but in Phoenix. Don't move family just for that TC imo. Not worth. If you can get into amazon and BB you should be able to find a better remote or in PHX offer? Unless you want to move.
I want to move out of Phoenix but I feel for NJ I would need 350k Atleast to live comfortably
Simple, do you want what NYC has to offer? Entertainment, shopping, food, public transportation, always having something to do, more fun, etc. If not, save your money and stay in phoenix where you can stack your cash and then die without ever using it and give it to your kids
Safe location with some good schools for toddler are more important for me. Being able to buy a house is a plus.
NYC is for people who enjoy chaos and night life and being at the centre of things. . . If neither of these sounds interesting, stay where it’s cheaper
Ex Bloomberg here. You will get tired with commute from NJ to NYC . For me it was 4 hours daily and did it for 15+ years.
4 hours? You lived in Philadelphia?
Central New Jersey. Any where from Nj to Bloomberg is minimum of 3 hours unless it is PATH accessible. But PATH accessible location are expensive and schools are not good
Ex Bloomberg here, and I got the exact same offer (5 yoe). Tbh they won’t really go about 300k unless you have something they really need, and don’t expect you will get a raise unless you are a team rockstar. I had 0 raise in my first year because I “negotiated” my offer and was already “too high” compared to my peers

I think this is very team dependent, but in general, bbg almost never fire people now. I had someone in my team in bbg would absolutely got pipped in amazon survived a year and managed to transfer to another team. Also bbg prefer promoting FSD(those started with them as ng). I know an external hire did 90% of a project and ended up giving to a FSD for his promotion credit and who became a team lead later. And yes I’m a SDE2 in amazon, but I’m one of the early hire in a brand new team so my scope is much more larger in bbg. Had I regret leaving bbg and joined amazon? Sometimes, but I got more money and scope and got to wfh most of my time, so I’ll take the chance of being layoff.
Stay at Amazon seems like the no brainer here
Amazon is doing layoffs. I passed the offer the first time bbg offered but had to reach out when amazon started layoff. Guess Amazon was not as safe as everyone thought
