How do you negotiate offers before signing them? Do you inflate the numbers you got from other companies? Do you bluff about the other offers you might have?
There is no point in bluffing - everybody knows an average comp at competitor’s, and you could fuck up easily if they would try to check it. HR world is not so big, especially in IT - it’s a matter of 1 post in FB and few DMs. So yeah, I would stick to the strategy a guy wrote above - negotiating is the key, just find right words
Negotiate yes. Bluff no. I relocated to the Bay Area from a lower cost of living area, so when asked about competing offers I explained that they were competing against my current household TC scaled to SF cost of living, taxes, etc.
